Empowering Entrepreneurs

Correctly determining the inventors to list in a patent application is both challenging and important for protecting the patent’s value. This is especially true for inventions developed at universities due to the collaborative nature of academic research. This seminar will provide guidance on factors to be considered in determining inventorship, present legal updates on determining inventorship, and provide working examples to illustrate how to assess inventorship.

Speaker: David Harper

David S. Harper is a partner with McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff LLP. Dr. Harper has more than 25 years of experience in the field of intellectual property law. His practice comprises all phases of U.S. and foreign patent and trademark prosecution, intellectual property portfolio development, licensing and other agreement work, counseling, due diligence analysis, infringement analysis, and invalidity analysis. He has particular technical expertise in the areas of biologicals, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, and medical devices. He has developed intellectual property portfolios for diverse clients from start-ups to large companies, universities, and other non-profit institutions, many of which have resulted in valuable licensing deals for his clients.
